Obviously dance is a great way to stay in shape. Dance classes build strength, challenge coordination, and are a great way to work on flexibility. While these aspects of dance are important and apparent, a dance education offers so much more than just physical fitness. Mastering skills in dance classes requires discipline, dedication, and focus. The mental aspect of dance cannot be underestimated. Also, a dance class is a community of like-minded peers coming together to work toward a common purpose: self-expression through dance!

The discipline required to show up for dance class week after week and work on the same moves over and over will serve your dancer in all aspects of their life. Dance is an art mastered through repetition. Through this attention to detail and patience in practice, a dancer learns the skills of sticking with something. Carrying this discipline to all aspects of their lives makes them better students, friends, and community members.

Community is such an important aspect of dance training. Dance as an art form and an act of self-expression requires vulnerability, which requires trust. Dancers coming into the studio each week to train develop a bond that goes beyond the walls of the studio and lasts far longer than their training.

The bond between students is apparent and lasting, but the bond between dance teachers and their students is powerful as well. Dance faculty frequently train a dancer for a decade or more, providing an additional adult mentor to a growing mind. Dance teachers love and nurture a dancer by pushing them physically and mentally, supporting them when they doubt themselves, and celebrating their successes.

The benefits of a dance education are so far reaching, going beyond simply showing up for weekly training. Choosing to enroll your student in dance is engaging them in an art form that encourages self-expression, challenges them physically and mentally, and creates life-long bonds.
