Setting Dance Goals for 2021
It is the time of year for setting goals and intentions. This can be a powerful exercise for your dance training! Sometimes it can be overwhelming to consider a goal so start small. Set your intentions on a goal that feels attainable. The victory of reaching that goal will bolster confidence and allow you to set your sights on higher, loftier goals.
These goals can be as specific as: get my left splits, or attempt to better control my balance in pirouettes; or they can lean toward something more general: be more focused in class, or come to class more better prepared. Your goal might involve expanding your training to include some of the great online opportunities offered during this time. When setting your goals consider your own strengths and weaknesses. The act of setting goals can be just as important and powerful as attempting to meet the goals you have set. Setting realistic, achievable goals requires introspection and a sense of self-awareness--great qualities for any dancer looking to grow and expand in their training.
Most importantly--make an action plan! Creating the goals is great, but how will you achieve them? Your goals will require clear action from you. Consider your goal and think about the factors that will lead to your eventual attainment of that goal. You can make a list of actions you can take. If you are unsure where to start ask your dance teacher!
