We are all getting used to the new norms of our world. The biggest one being incorporating masks into our activities. While masks can be uncomfortable, they are so important for stopping the spread of Covid-19 and allowing us to gather and dance together. Finding the right mask will make dancing in one so much more comfortable and enjoyable. Here are some tips for dancing in a mask:

  1. Fit is important! Find a mask that fits well. You do not want your dancer to be touching and adjusting it constantly as this defeats the purpose and contaminates their hands. Masks with adjustable straps are great for finding the correct fit.

  2. Bring more than one mask! If your dancer has a long day of dance classes be prepared by packing more than one mask. Masks get sweaty and very uncomfortable! It’s good to have an extra one.

  3. Dancing in a mask is safe, but breathing may take more effort. Finding the right material is important. Breathing should not be so labored that it affects efforts in training. If your dancer has trouble breathing they might need a different mask.

  4. Try your mask out! Before coming to the studio have your dancer wear their mask at home and move around in it. A dress rehearsal, if you will! This way they know if the mask is too loose or difficult to breath in once they exert themselves.

  5. Seems obvious but, WASH YOUR MASK AFTER EVERY USE!

Masks have become part of our daily lives and are imperative to taking care of the health of our community. We share the collective goal of keeping the studio open so your dancers have a place to move, express themselves, and share social connections.
